Re(set) - A collective exhibition, 9-14 May 2016

A few weeks ago, on 9-14 May 2016 at N-Workshop Yogyakarta, I had a collective exhibition together with my lovely friends. The title of the exhibition is Re(set). The theme relates to Self that deals with Other (either symbolic or real). The curator, Mas Hadid, is a very friendly guy who can guide us to make our best concept (even tho I still feel that I'm failing in technical part lol). 10+ artists exhibited their works: Amel, Mas Arya, Mas Budi, Mas Edi, Mas Nanang, Mas Rahmad, Mas Rama, Mas Sony, Nof and me! Mas Iskandar and Pak Koskow later on 3rd/4th day of exhibition displayed their works as well

Honestly, I feel very special during the exhibition because of many reasons :
1. Diyana, a friend of mine from Malaysia came all the way from Kuala Lumpur to help displaying and to visit this exhibition. I still feel sorry cause I didn't give her the best trip like she did when I visited her in KL :(
2. Binar and Ratri, childhood friends from Sumatra, also came to visit. We talked a lot and Ratri even came for drawing together with other participants.
3. I get to exhibit my artworks together with people that I adore!

Here are some photos from the event. Enjoy!
Display team + Diyana! - 8 May 2016
Opening Day - 9 May 2016
Somehow we get to display our works in same room ♥
Book Exchange - 12 May 2016
Ratri. Me, and Binar :3
Mas Hadid, giving a curatorial tour to UIN students - 14 May 2016
Drawing Together Event - 14 May 2016

My favorite work by Amalia Permahani.
I want to say thanks to all people who have supported me, my family, my friends, especially for Mas Arya who always give his words of advice to become a better artist, Mas Rama and Mas Sony for their support and knowledge of technical part, and for Nof who stayed together with me in the last minutes of making the artworks. Love you all!

I will tell you more about my artwork for this exhibition in next post. Ciao!

Floating

Superior Marker + Sketchbook Paper
A few days ago I went swimming with my friend, Minaa. It was a really good day. I got to play with water slides for the very first time of my life. It's really interesting to try new things. I also learned a really good lesson. For 22 years of my life, I never have the guts to do back swimming or even try to float on my back. I always wanted to do it, but I always think that it's impossible for me to do it, without even trying.

The last time I swim was before I went to Thailand, it means more than a year ago. I don't know what got into me the day I swam with Minaa, but I really determined to try to float on my back. At first Minaa helped me, she encouraged me and she made sure that she will hold my back so I didn't drown. Of course, at first I was hesitating, a lot. I was at the point to give up right away after my first try. But the determination kicked again! I tried and I tried. In less than 15 minutes I mastered (a bit of exaggeration, of course) how to float on my back and even back swimming!

Maybe for some of you it seems like a simple accomplishment. It is a simple accomplishment, but it brings greater impact for me. I learned that if I never tried, I wouldn't know whether I can do it or not. And if I stopped at my first try, I wouldn't be able to do things that I always wanted to do. It surely brought a great revelation to me, because I feel these days I haven't done my best. I should keep trying and trying to do my best at the things that I should do.

Lopburi Trip : Phra Prang Sam Yod

After a very long time not exercising photography, I laid once again my finger on the shutter button of my Canon EOS 500D. Inspired by Mokstimofeevic's works, here's what I got from the trip to Lopburi on December 21st, 2013.

Thailand International Ukulele Festival 3 2013

I was trying to be a contributor for Indonesia Ukulele Community in Thailand International Ukulele Festival 3 which was held in Parc Paragon, Siam Paragon, Bangkok, Thailand. It was a really great and amazing experience to be there because I got to interview some ukulele players that you might know. (Actually I interviewed Alan Soo from Ukulele Movement (Singapore) as well, but since I forgot to charge my battery, my camera just died when I started interviewing him :( )

Sorry for the overexposed, shaky and blurry video, i just couldn't contain my happiness being in an ukulele festival ;)
Enjoy!

BANGKOK - PROLOGUE

After graduating bachelor degree, I actually don't have any intention or plan to directly continue my french literature study, but then my thesis supervisor gave me the information about full scholarship offer from Chulalongkorn University. Long story short, here I am now, pursuing my Master of Arts degree, in Bangkok :)

Everything Was So Sudden

The announcement of the scholarship recipients was on May, 16th 2013. I should had been in Bangkok on the 1st of June.

You could imagine how hectic the next two weeks were. There were so many things I had to do before leaving for Bangkok, such as make visa, register myself to a health insurance, do a general check-up and other time-consuming things. Up until now, I am still really grateful to those who already helped me, especially to all member of my family. Since I had to do those time-consuming things, I didn't have much quality time with all my friends in Indonesia and I can say that I regret it. I regret it because I still have unfulfilled promises. I promised Kak Erlita to teach her how to play her favorite song with the guitar and also teach her how to modify her blog design. I promised Duta to have a photography session and cover some songs. I promised Cinant to have a wild karaoke session and I haven't had the chance to keep all of my promises. I still have many other promises and deadlines. All I hope now is that I can keep my promises, meaning that everyone including me, have to stay healthy and happy until the time when I go back to Indonesia.

The Departure Day

It was the most bitter-sweet day I have ever had in the entire 21 years and 3 months of my life.

All the morning my sister and I stuck together like a super glued paper. Every time we met each other eyes, we automatically hugged each other. She was very sweet that morning :D My brother teased me but I didn't feel annoyed, I felt happy instead. My Dad asked how I feel with his warm stare.

We arrived in airport about an hour and a half before my flight. I didn't directly go to the passanger waiting room because my friends said that they would come to see me in the airport. They did. Duta, Inna, Cinan, Denta, Harkit, and Nikita kindly came to the airport to say goodbye. I hugged each one of them. At that very moment I tried to memorize how warm and comforting their hugs were. Harkit, Nikita, and Inna gave me really cute gifts and I love them! A giraffe (we actually argued if this doll really is a giraffe or not :p) doll and an aromatherapy oil with giraffe dispenser, They named the doll Mr. Gi and I decided Little Gi, as the name for the little giraffe.

Little Gi turns out a literally HOT kid :p

The time had come. It was the first time I saw my mother gazed deeply into my eyes, telling how she felt, sending messages and advices without even talking. I felt goosebumps all over my body when she did that. I hugged and kissed her, I hugged and kissed my dad, I hugged and kissed my brother, I hugged and kissed my sister.

I waved at them as I felt rushes of blood pumped in and out of my heart. See you later, my kind friends. See you real soon, my beloved family. Two years is a short time, isn't it?

from every little things

Here are some little things I met over a week trip (to-)in(-from) Jakarta:
LIFESTYLE CHANGE IS A NEED
Something stroke me and that thing made me need to gain weight. Badly. So now I'm trying to stop eating what I usually eat daily and without fail: frozen food, fast food, instant food, and snacks with MSG, because apparently those thing made me sick. I am also trying to stop drinking coffee and soda. I try live a healthy life. Exercising suddenly becoming a must in my life.

POLITE MEN
I met new friends and I consider them polite. I asked a friend to pick me up and take me to my relative's house. He brought 5 friends of his. I already met one of them in real life and one of them on the net, the others were new. We hung out in a park and they started to joke with each other. I instantly like them. It is because they appreciate each other. Not like most of my friends in Jogja, who most of the time will give raised eyebrow and uncomfortable facial expression when someone throw unfunny jokes, they politely smile and laugh and start to give another joke so the person who give the cold joke doesn't feel uncomfortable. Maybe some people will say that it isn't a real friendship, but for me, friend is the one who makes you feel comfortable. I found them really comfortable to hang out with.

SOMEHOW YOU ARE WHAT GOES AROUND YOU
In Jakarta, my friend brought me anywhere by motorcycle but it still didn't stop us from being in a traffic jam (still, I thanked them a lot for bringing me everywhere). The traffic jam made me realize, people in Jakarta are impatient. Believe it or not, i like being in a traffic jam because it gives me time to think, so it is OK for me to be in a traffic jam. But not for my friends--and other road users as well--, they don't like it as I see them became impatient and cranky when we were stuck in the middle of traffic. I think they became impatient because of the traffic jam itself. I bet undergoing traffic jam day by day at some point does make you impatient even if you are the most patient person in the whole world, because everyone else around you are starting to blow their horn and if that isn't enough to annoy you, the traffic start to stuck again after you barely move for only three seconds. Maybe if I stay a little longer there I would also become impatient.

NICE ≠ NICE
I rode an economic AC train to go back to Yogya and I sat next to a middle-aged woman. I tried to be nice at first to her and she responded well. Too well. In the first three hours of travel she kept talking to me and what made me a bit uncomfortable was that she said she could never sleep in a train. Great. When I tried to sleep she also tried to talk to me. She even woke me up from my sleep just to tell me I could stretch my feet to the front seat so I could sleep better. I was already sleeping, Ma'am, thank you. I knew she was just trying to be nice but it was kind of displeased me. This experience made me realize that not everyone appreciates nice treatments from other people. It's time for me learn and observe whether people around me like how I treat them or not.

Since it has been a really boring post, here's a boring video which might make you even more bored, enjoy :D

The First Time I Met Mr. Washing Machine

Aaaand my opinion is: WASHING MACHINE IS REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY AWESOME! AWESOME! Note to self: I should buy a washing machine when I live by myself later.
That's me and the awesome washing machine, ALL HAIL Mr. Washing Machine!
P.S this post is based on my exaggeration :D
P.P.S but still, washing machine is awesome!
P.P.P.S but really, i think i'm the most lazy-ass in my house :p

Rambut Baru dalam Semangkuk Mie Rebus

Saya baru saja potong rambut dan potong poni, yah kira-kira jadinya begitu deh, belum sempat foto. Habis lima belas ribu, jadi semakin berantakan, setelah sisiran mamah bilang 'sana sisiran, berantakan', aduh aduh yasudahlah nanti juga panjang lagi, makin berantakan lagi. Yasudah. Segitu saja dulu. Agak sakit saya sekarang.

The Greatest Debate of My Mind in 2012. So Far.

In the end of August, a really weird feeling struck my mind, asking whether i have to keep or to drop the thesis credits that i already bravely took 3 days ago. Most of my friends are not taking thesis credits this semester, they said they are going to take them next semester. I consulted with administrator in my department and she said it is better to take them next semester. Shoot! She then suggested me to consult with my thesis supervisor. I texted her and while I was waiting the reply I doodled and this is the result of the consultation with her.

This picture tells that if I want to graduate in February 2013, I have roughly 4 months to do my thesis and to pass it I have to do the final exam in mid-january 2013! Why did I say roughly? As I still having another project in this semester, such as helping my lecturer's research, pkm's business, and collaboration exhibition, I couldn't devote myself only to do my thesis.

Then I consulted with my friends. Most of them said that I should keep them. I even made pros and cons list, considering what's good and bad from each choice. I have been spending all day feeling uncertain and indecisive. But then I realized that I have my own character. I won't start if I have no deadline! If I take thesis credit next semester, maybe this whole thing will strike me again! So I try to calm my mind and said to myself:

"YOU CAN CERTAINLY DO THESIS THIS SEMESTER, YOUNG LADY!"

P.S It also occurs to me that sooner I begin, the further my chances to be bald. Cinant and I have a pact: If we haven't graduated yet until the last period of graduation in 2013, we have to cut our hair out and be bald. And after that we have to go to beauty salon and ask for a creambath. Imagining that scenario always make me cringe! I really have to graduate soon :D

P.P.S On unrelated topic: It was really a shame, but it turned out that I 'forgot' how to use a dayyum scanner since i never use it for like 4 or 5 months, took me 5 times to get decent quality of picture above :D

Mengapa?

At some point saya merasa bodoh mempertanyakan hal ini, untuk apa coba saya mempermasalahkan orang yang tertawa, mungkin saya sama saja kaya bilang "STOP LAUGHING AT COMEDY SHOW!". Yah perspektif dan penilaian orang berbeda-beda sih.

Chocolate On Me Shirt

One day i made and posted and made this drawing as me profile picture on facebook.
Watercolor and pen on art paper that Mas Gin gave me.

Then suddenly a wild Mas Gin-Gin appeared! He asked me to make sticker or shirt with that drawing. And i said yes, which finally led to this:
Yes, my hair is a mess. And my boobs are small.

Mine is pink and Mas Gin's is yellow. Mas Pati asked whether me and Mas Gin deliberately choose that color to match Spongebob and Patrick. We wouldn't notice that if Mas Pati didn't point that out. Thanks to Mas Gin-Gin for the tutorial on how to screen printing and Mas Hendra who helped the making of this t-shirt :*

heart4japan postcard exhibition

Kenapa? Karena menu pada hari itu adalah: BAGUETTE! LOTS and LOTS of BAGUETTE :D

Ah, ingin lagi!

Bunch of kisses for Vremita! Beliaulah otak utama acara ini terjadi :*

I like this photo the most, so random but full of real-happiness

And because of Dyka's crazy idea, we went to the:

What a great day! Oh, and happy holiday for all of you!

Ukulele Night

taken from IUC FB Group

Wafiq Giotama (I called him Ogi) invited me to an ukulele player gathering at Rodeo Square on May, 21st 2011. I was so excited knowing there will be a uker gathering! I was hoping that I could meet other girl who plays ukulele. But sadly, I was the only uker girl who came to the gathering. But there was no reason to be sad because I got the Answer Sheet CD for FREE!

Ogi is the member of Answer Sheet. He's also the maker of Indonesian Ukulele Community.

At the gathering, I met Mas Gilang Karebet (Rebet) and Dimas Gilang Dananjaya. They are also the member of Answer Sheet. I also met Mas Fadhil Firdaus, he is the owner of Orange Studio. Before I joined table with Answer Sheet, I met Mas Ramses with his wife, Mbak Ria, and their child.

Moi, Ogi, Mas Ramses

Danan, Ogi, Rebet

I was so happy to be there because I could watch Mas Fadhil and Answer Sheet perfomance! They played really really effin' good so I ashamed to play my uke when they asked me to :D
